2 Dieting

Dieting is how to ingest food in a regulated way to loose weight or to stabilize or gain weight, especially in sport circles. Many of the diets are unhealthy, and probably not the right way to loose weight. In the media you can see hundreds of advertisements that are promising you to loose weight in a short period. People under 18 years should not go on a diet because you should be full-grown. Still, there are a lot of people under 18, especially girls, who are going on a diet.

There are a lot of different types of dieting, and it depends on what you want to gain. Here are some of the most normal types:

  • Weight-loss implies that you are eating specific foods or a general of food to reduce your bodyweight.
  • Weight-gain is professional athletics that are eating specific foods that are adapted for the sports they are practicing, to get better results.
  • Those who are undergoing weight-gain and have a wrong understanding of how a body normally should weigh. These people are probably getting an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia.

India versus the UK

As you can see on the GDP-numbers (Norwegian: BNP) in India and the UK, there is a huge difference between UK’s economy and India’s economy. Because of this, there is also a big difference between the amounts of food per person. There is a lot more people to feed in India, and the population density is bigger than in the UK.Therefore, the difference is big also between the UK and India when it comes to dieting. In some poor parts of India they are struggling to get enough food, and therefore it is a minimal chance for people to get overweight. Constantly, the poor Indians have more problems getting enough food than to make sure that they are not getting overweight. To have curves and a rounded figure is regarded as an ideal for the Indian women. So according to the economic numbers in proportion to the population numbers, dieting is a lot more widespread in the UK than in India.

According to BBC, the number of dieting in India today is still higher than five years ago, because they are getting influenced by the Western fashions and films. The Indians are getting another view on how their body should look like. Constantly, the number of people who are dieting in India is a bit higher than before.In the UK there are a lot of food shops and restaurants with almost only unhealthy food. The availability of food, especially unhealthy food, is bigger in the UK than in India, so the British are more often overweight.
